WHY CONSIDER ENGINEERING AS A CAREER?

Engineering is an extremely broad field that continues to expand.  The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that there will continue to be a 10+% increase in the job market for engineers.  Additionally, almost 25% of the current engineering workforce is over the age of 55, which means there will be a significant number of job openings due to retirement in the next 10-15 years.

In addition to traditional engineering jobs, engineering provides great training for other career paths.  One-third of the CEOs in S&P 500 companies have engineering degrees.  Engineering majors who apply for professional programs, such as medical school and law school, are accepted at a rate well above the average acceptance rate.  More and more engineers are working with start-up companies, playing key roles in software and product development.  The career opportunities for engineers are plentiful, whether in traditional settings, related professions, or in developing fields.
